RADIOTHERAPY
Treatment Techniques
At Clínica Abreu , together with CDD Radioterapia , we offer the most advanced radiotherapy techniques in the world, designed to provide maximum precision and effectiveness in the treatment of cancer. Thanks to our cutting-edge technology, we have implemented innovative methods that ensure personalized treatment, minimizing the impact on healthy tissues and improving clinical results. Discover how our techniques, such as IMRT , IGRT , SBRT , FastForward , Cardiac Radioablation , Radiosurgery (known as Gamma Knife) and PET-CT Guided Radiotherapy , are transforming oncology care in the Dominican Republic.
IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy)
IGRT is a technique that combines radiotherapy with high-resolution imaging, such as CT or MRI scans, just before each treatment session. This allows for real-time correction of the tumor's position, adjusting the radiation to daily changes in the patient's anatomy, such as tumor movement due to breathing or changes in tumor size. IGRT improves treatment precision, ensuring that radiation is directed exactly to the affected area, minimizing damage to healthy tissue.
SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy)
SBRT is a noninvasive technique that delivers high doses of radiation in a small number of sessions. It is ideal for small tumors or those that cannot be treated by surgery, such as lung, liver or spine tumors. The millimeter precision of SBRT allows for the detection of small tumors. SBRT allows radiation to be concentrated on the tumor with great precision, which minimizes the risk of damage to healthy tissue. As fewer sessions are required, the treatment is more comfortable and faster for the patient, with excellent clinical results.
FastForward
The FastForward technique is designed to speed up treatment, using a reduced number of sessions with higher doses of radiation. This method has proven to be particularly effective in treating breast cancer, allowing patients to complete their treatment in less time without compromising treatment efficacy. FastForward not only improves the convenience of treatment, but also reduces overall radiation exposure, benefiting patients with a shorter and safer treatment.
Cardiac Radioablation
Cardiac radioablation is a revolutionary technique used to treat complex cardiac arrhythmias by applying targeted radiotherapy. This technique allows for non-invasive "ablation", avoiding the need for surgical procedures or traditional catheter ablations. It is ideal for patients who do not respond to other treatments, and as it is a non-invasive intervention, it involves fewer risks and faster recovery times. Clínica Abreu, together with CDD Radioterapia, has been a pioneer in the implementation of this technique in the Caribbean.
PET-CT Guided Radiotherapy
PET-CT guided radiotherapy is a state-of-the-art technique that combines positron emission tomography (PET) with computed tomography (CT) to improve the precision of treatment planning and delivery. PET-CT provides detailed images of the tumor and metabolic activity in the body, helping to more accurately identify affected areas and differentiate between healthy and cancerous tissue. This technique ensures that radiation is directed exclusively at active tumor areas, maximizing treatment effectiveness and reducing side effects.
Hypofractionated Radiotherapy
Hypofractionated radiotherapy is a cancer treatment that delivers higher doses of radiation in fewer sessions than conventional radiotherapy, thereby reducing the overall treatment time. This technique is especially useful for certain types of cancer, such as breast, prostate and lung cancer, and offers the advantage of shorter hospital stays and greater comfort for the patient. Thanks to the precision of modern technology, radiation is directed more precisely to the tumor, protecting surrounding healthy tissue. However, its use depends on the medical evaluation of each case to ensure its effectiveness and safety.
Each of these techniques represents Clínica Abreu and CDD Radioterapia's commitment to innovation and excellence in cancer treatment, providing our patients with access to the best technology available to fight this disease safely and effectively.
